A complete clearance of 152 Merino and Poll Merino rams for Michael and Jane Corkhill, Grassy Creek Merinos, Reids Flat was the successful culmination of a year dedicated to breeding and presenting the best Merino sheep for discerning woolgrowers.

A top price of $9000 was achieved while the sale average of $2971 was up $600 on last year.
Peter Campbell and his sister-in-law Jane Campbell, Sunnyridge, Frogmore bought the top priced ram for use in their stud where they breed replacement rams for their own use and for private sale.

The Campbell’s have had a lot of success with Grassy Creek genetics increasing the productivity of their extensive commercial operation.
“This ram will increase the overall bodyweight of our ewes and fleece weight while keeping the fine micron,” Mr Campbell said.

“His wool is very bright, with correct crimp and no cross fibres.”
Mr Campbell said his new sire will be joined to specially selected ewes to pass on his genetic traits.

“Increasing the body weight of our ewes leads to greater survivability of the lambs and we are getting great returns from our surplus sheep.”

Stud co-principal Michael Corkhill said he was absolutely amazed by the sale results.

“We had put up a few more rams and we greatly appreciate the support of loyal clients,” he said.
